OK, time to start whining again. nhn maliciously and willfully tricked me into trying to un-Qt3Supportify amarok's codebase. By maliciously I mean he seemed nothing but enthusiastic when I volunteered to do it. And by willfully I mean he (along with hydrogen) were being overtly (sic) helpful whenever I ran into trouble. Clearly something foul is afoot, and I will not rest until I get to the bottom of it! Fun and jokes aside I have to go study up on more C++ for this one. The code is doing strange things, and is being constructed in weird ways beyond the comprehension of my mere beginner grasp of C++. Time to hit up another chapter of everybody's (by which I mean my) favorite C++ book: C++ Primer Plus, Fourth Edition. This is usually around the point where I say, "Screw it, this is hard," pack up my toys and go home, but until one of the regular devs is magically granted a Mac I'll keep on pluggin'. I really don't want to do chapter 4 though... If you're wondering how I got myself into this predicament this time, it was quite simple really. I was trying to get the Preferences dialog to not take up all of my screen real estate (height-wise). In that respect I was successful, the kicker is that the main offender, the xine engine dialog doesn't display properly now. Actually no, the kicker is that it displays incorrectly only on OS X. Looks bloody fine in linux. Maah Föcker. Xine's got me again. Soooo I, in my infinite brilliance, decided that instead of figuring out how the Qt3Support classes work I'd just quickly (heh, quickly) convert to Qt4 classes and my problems would be magically solved! Yeah. Right. Brilliant. I've since become quite familiar with the Qt3Support classes in question (Q3*boxLayout) but I'm too stubborn to just give up now. And this is despite the un-fun that was 4 days spent moving to qt4.4 preview on the mac. Not fun on linux, even more so on mac. On a more bittersweet note, I'm back from visiting the gf in OH. That was fun. I'll prolly move to OH soon. She's arrsome and I wanna be with her more. So yeah, I'm whipped. What of it? |
